Feature June 2005

With over 30 years of experience RWE has been in the solar biz longer than most.  They are leaders in developing high quality solar cells, and designing large industrial solar arrays.  RWE started in 1974 as when Tyco and Mobil teamed up to work on solar cell and solar modules.  Today they are a force in the industry.

RWE produces the ASE 300 module the most powerful solar module in the industry.  It achieves this while using a patented laser based construction method that greatly reduces waste.  They are able to produce better cells, using half the silicon of competitors.

Not only does RWE make the cells and the modules they also produce ingenious installation systems for home and business.   The one I found most interesting is there system of non-puncture flat room systems.  There is a lot of big flat roofs in this country doing nothing but soaking up sun that could be used to produce electricity.  Your average big box store has enough roof space to fully power the store and sell surplus energy back to the grid for a tidy extra profit.

RWE's system allows for simple installation (I learned how to do it myself in under 6 hours) that does not puncture the room in any way.  This keeps the roof warranty intact while allowing for fast installation with a minimal of work crew training.

Besides big business, RWE installs home and educational institution arrays.  They will also help you get the most by teaching you how to conserve energy and get the most of the local tax credits, net metering, REC's (renewable energy credits) sales, and rebates.  They also happen to be all around nice people.

Several months ago I began working on a solar class room curriculum.  With zero budget and a lot of work to do, my lessons were almost entirely paper based.  There was no way I would be able to afford the amount of solar cells needed to be able to give some to the kids to learn with.  RWE was nice enough to provide me with several dozen cells FOR FREE.  They gave me a couple batches of the rejects (RWE has such high standards that even the rejects were very nice cells) and even paid for the shipping.  I have been able to really teach the kids much more effectively with these cells.

With the experience, and quality products, combined with good people, RWE is a solid company.  Look to them for good things in the future.
